Why Join Robotics?

STEM

Through the power of robotics students learn about science, technology, engineering, and math.

Teamwork

In VEX, students work with teams to gain as many points as possible to win. Students have to  work with their own team, as well as teams from all around the state, country, and world.

Friendships

Students are able to make friends that they never would have met, without joining robotics.

Changing Perspective

For hundreds of years girls have been stereotyped into interests like,  fashion, makeup, and the color pink.  But, who says that girls need to follow these "rules" anymore. Not many girls join robotics because it seems like a "boy activity".  However, VEX is crushing that stereotype by encouraging girls to join robotics. VEX holds a program called Girl Powered that empowers girls to join robotics and all learn the ins and outs of robotics. At FreedomBots we also agree with Girl Powered because it encourages girls to do their best!

About Us

FreedomBots started in 2015 in Shane Vandenberg's basement, the founder of FreedomBots. It started with a group of second graders simply wanting to learn more about robotics. In the beginning, the team didn't compete and spent just one night a week learning how to build a robot. The next year, (2016) the group started entering competitions. The team was determined to keep pushing themselves. They did so well in that season that they made it to state and were two points away from competing at worlds. Throughout 2017 and 2018, the teams got bigger and better. Each year more students joined, wanting to learn about robotics. In 2018 they even had to create a 3rd grade team for kids wanting to explore the world of robotics. Also, in both 2017 and 2018 seasons, the teams were fortunate enough to make it to the VEX World Championships!
